Style of the years 1910 - 1920

It is a common feature in fashion history or fashion trends that at the end of a decade, the next one begins with more or less the same look. After all, time is an idea of man and not a magical force of fashion history in the 20th century. 1910 - 1920 | The fashion folk that changes lives. In this sense, the early 1910s were still very similar to the 1900s. With a swollen breast, a small waist and long dresses / skirts. Overall, the fashion was still very petite and romantic, with bright and dovey colors like purple, pink and peach. Lots of lace, details and white to capture the pure and innocent fashion (see picture above).

By the end of the decade, women's fashion was no longer just a question of beauty, but of function as well. In the last years before the 1920s, there was a simpler fashion meaning: calf-length dresses, the liberation of the corset (more or less) and a straight silhouette. Women still wore dresses, skirts, and hats, but they were made "plain," and the focus was on practical aspects as well as lace details and bright colors. It can be assumed that the actions of the war shifted from the superficial to the practical side of life. Although it should be noted that dressing was still important if not crucial.

The clothes between 1910 - 1920

The clothing of the decade consisted mainly of blouse, skirt, dress and coat. It continues to embrace the high collar / neckline of the last decade and goes for longer sleeves and floor-length lengths. Hats were an important accessory and often oversized with decors made of feathers and flowers. A V-neckline with a high collar blouse was a common combination in fashion history of the 20th century from 1910 to 1920. The fashion folks of the early years of the 1910s. In the later years the neckline became deeper and the length shorter. The same old corsets were no longer needed for the straight silhouette and the slight enlargement of the waist was made by a simple belt or by plugging. The color gamut became darker and more rustic in terms of copper, gray and navy. Details of lace and flowers were often exchanged for a simple bow. Important were also collars and necklines, often a poetic collar or a shawl collar. The popular buttons of the 1900s were still a common feature in dresses, jackets and skirts. Hats were still an important fashion item, but they were neater and simpler in their design. In the upper class and for more elegant occasions, however, the clothes still had similarities with earlier fashion of the 1900s.

Beauty between 1910 - 1920

Over the course of the century, more and more make-up was considered socially acceptable (people would still be upset over the amount of make-up today). The idea of a great make-up look was to use as much of it as possible to look as natural as possible. The eyebrows were rather thin, the eyes were doe and rosy cheeks and "natural" red lips were ideal. It should be emphasized, however, that the make-up should not be particularly noticeable or strong. But look so close to the ideals without being too visible (a very difficult line to define that).

The hair became curly and formed a lower roll with a defined side. The hair was placed so that it looked like a bob, the haircut that later redefined women's beauty in the 1920s. This hairstyle was also good with a nice hair band or the (almost) obligatory hat.

Transition to the 1920s

As already mentioned, the last years of the 1910s were close to the style of the 1920s. The silhouette was set for the coming decade, as well as the length of the dresses and the minimalist style for everyday life. The only thing left for the 1920s was to add glamor, fringe, feathers, and sequins. The fashion of the 1910s began with features of the old society in the context of corset, appearance before function and conservatism. However, it ended up with more skin, a simple silhouette and a fashionista style (though they retained the sense of style). Far away until the 1910s!
